The results came in on which ground works best for this painting and yellow was the popular vote.
I also love the luminance of the yellow but my inner pragmatist told me that the mid brown would be a better tone.
So I’ve compromised and made

Today in class we did some tests to see what ground/imprimatura would work best in a series of colour studies. Starting off with the ‘right’ colour or tone can make a HUGE difference to your finished work.
